Juanita Dickinson – LGSC17

Hi, my name is Juanita Dickinson and I am one of 3,500 community leadership program graduates contributing to my community.

I graduated from the LGSC in 2017 and can honestly say that it has changed my life. Having spent the best part of 12 years working as a Social Worker I felt like I was at a career crossroads.
I’d always had an interest in Emergency Management but didn’t believe it would ever become much more than that, an interest. That was until I commenced my LGSC journey.

As a result of this incredible program, I quickly joined the local State Emergency Service (SES) and also the Red Cross Emergency Services team, both volunteer roles I’ve always had an interest in but never thought I could do.

I also commenced my Masters in Emergency Management and whilst I’m not sure where that will take me just yet – combined with my Social Work skills and experience, I’m so very passionate about seeing individuals thrive and building resilient communities.

I really do find it hard to put into words the impact that this Program has on you. It challenges you, stretches you, develops you and holds you all whilst filling you with a confidence to go out and chase your dreams.

Having completed the Program, I’m much more heavily invested and engaged in not only my community, and the wider region. Having had the privilege to hear and learn from some of the region’s key thinkers and leaders, I’m committed to doing what I can to ensure that our beautiful region exceeds beyond it’s challenges and relishes in the opportunities provided to it.
